Where do I fit?

This is something I’ve been thinking of a lot lately.  Where do I fit theologically?  Who do I connect with and relate to?  Who, or what groups have belief structures similar to mine.

Maybe these questions started because of the questions I’ve been exploring as I look at working with Adam in the new church plant.  Maybe it’s because I’ve been reading a lot more blogs from folks who believe things that are different than what I believe.  Maybe it’s because I’m about to become a parent, and am just doing some inner reflection in preparation.  Maybe it’s all of these things.

So, I figured I’d put some of my thoughts in a short, 4-part series (five if you include this post).  It’s not about WHAT I believe, we already covered that in my Ministry Philosophy series.  It will be more about how I came to these beliefs, where I fit now, especially with respect to the whole emergent thing, and where God is leading me.

We’ll start tomorrow & since there is no time crunch on this series like there was on the last one I’ll take some time getting it done.  I look forward to sharing with you & hearing your thoughts.

Just my $.02

Matt, congrats on the house:). Im flying around texas right now. As i fly over houses and farms and cities, I cant help but wonder what those people down there have going on in there lives. I find myself praying over them as I fly. I also realize that everyone of those people believe something different than I do, whether it be about life, politics, or religion. What fustrates me more than anything else in religion, is that we allow ourselfs to be put in a box, on what we believe based off our denomination. We talk alot about not putting God in a box, but then force ourselfs into one. As I get older, I have come to realize that there are lots of good and bad things with each Christain denomination. I find myself agreeing with parts of SBC, PCA, PCUSA, etc. and disagreeing with other parts. For instance I believe in thiesticevolution?, which is pretty unpopular on both sides of the fence. But the key to all of this and I cant stress this enough esp to myself everyday, is that ultimatly God cares about your PERSONAL relationship with Him. Period, end of story. Go to church, dont go, belive this or that, but if that stone foundation of a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior isnt there, what are we doing argueing about the minutia of religion, know what i mean? Dont put yourself in a box, believe what you believe, Love our Lord and your brothers and sisters, everything else is very very secondary. There are many things that satan uses to divide us, but thanks be to God that there is one unifying force that binds us together, that is stronger than all of those differences, that our Gods love us inspite of ourselfs. Solo Deo Gloria, Kevin

Great comment Kevin.

I pretty much don't have to publish my next post now, you've hit on all my major points. Many better than I will. Thanks.

BTW: How do you fly and post comments? It's kind of cool to think of you up there praying for us & all the other little people under you!
